Welcome to the WX4TM and WX4MM web site.

Hi. My name is Tom Moore.  My wife's name is Mary. This site is our little effort to provide important weather information to those interested, and to tell you what we do with weather data and Amateur (or HAM) Radio.  That's our HAM Radio callsigns on top of the webpage. I'm WX4TM and Mary is WX4MM

Weather Data is fed to this web site every 15 minutes via FTP process from an Optiplex GX620 PC with windows XP Pro running WeatherLink software which automatically retrieves its weather data from a Vantage PRO-2 wireless weather station. The PC runs 24/7 and has a back-up UPS

Additionally, this PC runs Weather Message software, receiving near real time data from a NWS satellite transmitting the Emergency Management Weather Information Network (EMWIN) data stream.  With this, it is configured to receive selected NWS weather data. Watches, Warnings and other pertinent weather messages are automatically emailed to over 100 subscribers (free of charge) via a Hughs Net internet Satellite system.  This system is subject to 'rain fade'. So when its really raining hard here, outgoing messages may be delayed as much as 10 mins. We'd dearly love to have Bellsouth.net or Cable but neither is available here.

DISCLAIMER: Though I've taken many many STORM SPOTTER classes, I'm no where near being a meteorologist - not even an amateur meteorologist!  I DO NOT FORECAST WEATHER! My biggest concern is public safety during severe weather events. So all I do is pass along, as quickly as possible, information directly from the NWS

The rest of the site is dedicated to our involvement and enjoyment of Ham Radio, particularly with Club activities, Emergency Communications, DX'ing and Contesting. We hope you will find it informative and enjoyable.  If you're interested in becoming a HAM, contact us and we'll be glad to help get you started. It's actually a lot easier than you might think. In June 2008, my 86 year old mother-in-law, on her first attempt, passed the entry level Technician License test!

Your comments and suggestions about the site are welcomed.

73,

Tom Moore WX4TM
